Stephen Ministries

Stephen In a congregation of more than a thousand people it is impossible for three ministers to meet the needs of everyone, all the time. Stephen Ministry is a national program that trains lay people to help others. It was established at Central Church to try to meet more of the needs people have for short term, compassionate care.

Stephen Ministers go through an extensive training course and meet on a regular basis to review what they have learned. They are assigned to care-receivers of their own gender and are obligated to keep he relationship with their care-receivers strictly confidential.

Stephen Ministry helps meet the needs of individuals who are:
  • experiencing major adjustments to jobs/careers/residences
  • experiencing the absence of a family member due to death, school, military assignment, marriage, divorce
  • adjusting to becoming a single parent
  • homebound or alone
  • hospitalized or recently discharged
  • facing a serious or terminal illness
  • new to our congregation or community
  • facing decisions on future care of again parents or spouses
Care Receivers are persons who need:
  • someone to talk to
  • someone they can trust
  • someone to be there with regular visits during times of crisis
  • someone who listens and cares, and who shares Christ's love
  • someone who does not "do for," but is "there for" them
If you experience a crisis and would like some extra care from a Christian friend, call or send an email to one of the pastors.
