Kids Helping Kids

Hey Parents!
As I have been blessed with opportunities to work with your children over the last few years, I have found that Central has a wonderful
group of young people who are kind, caring, enthusiastic and compassionate. I am confidant they will be excited about our new ministry
project, but we need your support to make this mission work.
At “Rock the Block” we noticed that neighborhood children selected school supplies rather than trinkets as prizes at some of our games.
As the Children’s Ministry Team excitedly discussed how to make a difference within our community, the answer was obvious, give them the
supplies they need to succeed academically while encouraging our own children to look around their environment for opportunities to show
Jesus’ love.
Boxes will be placed in each Sunday School room to collect school supplies, lunch boxes and book bags. As you pick up supplies for your
children we ask that you prayerfully consider grabbing extras to donate. Please look through your closets for gently used book bags and
lunch boxes, and now that stores are setting up for Christmas, many have school supplies at greatly reduced prices. Who doesn’t love a
sale?
Most importantly, PLEASE get your children involved in this project. It is much easier to do the work for them, but we are truly hoping
this can be a KIDS helping KIDS project. The following are a few simple ways you can get your children thinking about this project:
- Turn down the radio in the car and ask “are there kids at your school without book bags”? “How do they carry home their homework?”
- At bedtime discuss how difficult it would be to do homework when you have no calculator, eraser, desk, quiet place to work, etc. Then
ask them if they can think of anyone to add to their prayers who maybe isn’t as blessed as they are.
- At supper ask your children if they know what the “Free and Reduced Lunch Program” is all about. Explain to them that MANY children in
their school come from families who cannot afford to buy lunch for their children each day. Ask them if they think there is any child in
Union County to goes to bed hungry at night?
- Have older children figure out how much a new book bag full of supplies costs.
- As you are helping with homework, ask “is there anyone in your class who always has to borrow pencils, paper, crayons, etc? Why do you think that is?
I am sure you can think of many more (and probably better) ways to help our children understand the importance of helping their peers
through school supplies and prayers. As you think of some, please email them to myself joy.goforth@ncmail.net or Mary Ann
maburns@carolina.rr.com and we will forward your ideas to the other parents.
Each quarter we will have a party for the kids to celebrate the success of the Children’s Minstry Project. Book bags will be filled with
supplies and distributed at next year’s Rock the Block as well as taken to community schools to be given to children who need them. Some
of the proceeds from the Consignment sale will go to purchase additional supplies.
THANK YOU for your help and support!!!!
