Central United Methodist Reaches Out…. And you can be a part of our Missions Outreach
Current projects include the following:
Central is very involved in the collection of aluminum cans to support Habit for Humanity. Please bring in your cans and support this wonderful cause and help the environment by recycling at the same time! The collection container is upstairs in the Family Life Center next to the drink machines or outside behind the upstairs kitchen. Contact Mary Engel with any questions.
Central United Methodist Church provides a team to prepare and serve dinner at our community Soup Kitchen every 2nd Sunday of the month. The shelter is located on E. Jefferson St, and typically feeds around 30 men, women and children at each meal. This is a “quick” ministry...an afternoon to prepare, and hour to serve. Please see Carolyn Sherman or sign up at the crossroads to help out!
Snaks 4Kids is an outreach program that sends backpacks home each weekend to children that may otherwise go without adequate nutrition. The backpacks are stocked with a daily protein, vegetable, fruit, breakfast, juice, and snack. WOW! As their bodies are fed, their minds are readied and their hearts warmed. Continued funding is needed to promote and expand this United Methodist Women program. Contact Helen Hancock or Elaine Hall.
Central is now participating in the Food Lion Shop & Share program. When you register your MVP card then each time you shop at Food Lion and use your MVP card, a portion of your total grocery purchase will be donated to Central and will support the Missions budget. Contact Jane Ceurvorst for more information or go to the Food Lion web site to register your MVP card.
An annual event where Central opens its doors and hearts to the community to provide a fun afternoon for our Monroe neighbor’s. There are games, activities, inflatables, food, snacks, classic cars, music and much, much more. There are also community organizations represented so everyone has the opportunity to learn about the services available in Monroe. An invitation is given to every residence within a 1 mile radius of the church and everything is free. Contact Laura Hinkle for more information.
In the summer of 2007, the Children’s Ministry Team decided to host a children’s consignment sale for both church members and the public to sell their gently used clothing, toys, etc. The first sale was held in the Fall of 2007 and is repeated every Spring and Fall. The event provides many opportunities for fellowship, outreach, support of local charities as well as raises funds to support the Children’s Ministries. The proceeds have been used to purchase school supplies for local schools and the Rock the Block bounce house. Contact Donna Young for more information. You can find the Children's Consignment website here.
The Children’s Ministry Team started a new program in the Spring of 2008 to collect backpacks and school supplies to be raffled off at the annual Rock the Block Party. A total of 72 backpacks with school supplies were collected. Due to overwhelming number of backpacks and supplies collected, 30 backpacks were given out at the Block Party and the remaining 42 were distributed to local low performing schools to be handed out as needed to students by the school counselors. Contact Joy Goforth for more information.
