Equipping Ministries

Equipping Christ calls all of us to be ministers; not just the clergy and professional staff. Equipping Ministries helps people learn about their gifts and passions, then helps and supports them to use those gifts to serve others who would benefit from those skills or talents.

The range of services is enormous. One family opens their home to youth who need a place to hang out between church and UMYF. Someone else teaches Yoga. Another person uses their craft skills to make nice things for others. Some deliver food for those who are sick, while others use their construction skills to build wheelchair ramps for those who need them. Then of course there are the more "traditional" skills of serving on committees, teaching, singing or ringing, being a youth counselor, etc.

It is important to understand that all of these services are ministries, carried out by people just like you. You don't have to have a seminary education to be in ministry; all you need to do is discover what your gifts are, then start using them to help people. In this way you serve Christ and his Church.

Christ calls us to compassionately respond to human needs by using the gifts God gave us to reach out to others. At Central United Methodist Church we want to equip you to experience the joy and sense of satisfaction of ministering to people.

How do you find out what your gifts and talents may be? Equipping Ministries offers Network, a course designed to help you learn what gifts you possess. You'll get some basic information, then answer a series of questions to help you discover your passions in life, then we can help you get started.

Don't think you have to do anything all by yourself, either! One of the most important parts of Equipping Ministries is it's a teamwork concept where people routinely meet to support each other and help each other grow. You will make new friends as you enjoy using your gifts!
